The Producers Guild of America announced today that Charles D. King will be honored with the 2024 Milestone Award, in recognition of “his immeasurable contributions to the motion picture industry.” King will accept the award at the 35th annual Producers Guild Awards on Sunday, February 25.
The Milestone Award recognizes producers or production teams who have made historic contributions to the entertainment industry. The winners of 2023 were Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. Other past honorees include Louis B. Mayer, Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock, as well as Steven Spielberg, Bob Iger, Sherry Lansing, George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron and more.
King is the founder and CEO of MACRO, a multi-platform media company representing the voices and perspectives of Black, Indigenous and people of color. The company’s verticals include film (MACRO Film Studios) and television studios (MACRO Television Studios), which finance, develop and produce theatrical and streaming features, as well as premium television, as well as an in-house branding and creative agency (Brand MACRO) . MACRO’s most recent film was Netflix’s They cloned Tyrone.
“Charles King’s achievements in our industry are undeniable, whether as an agent representing important voices or as a producer responsible for the growing MACRO empire, a multi-platform media company that represents the voices and perspectives of Black people and people of color represented.” PGA Presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line said in a joint statement. “Since its launch in 2015, MACRO films have received fifteen Academy Award nominations, including one for King as a producer of the Best Picture nomination. Judas and the Black Messiah. He continues to break new ground with his invaluable contributions through his creative storytelling and we are proud to honor him.”
Previously, King was the first black partner at William Morris Endeavor in the company’s more than 100-year history and the first black partner ever at a major talent agency. Judas and the Black Messiah made King, Ryan Coogler and Shaka King the first all-black team of Oscar-nominated producers. The fifteen Oscar nominations for MACRO films resulted in three wins. The projects also received one Peabody Award nomination, two Primetime Emmy nominations, six Children and Family Emmy Awards and one Grammy nomination.

King is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the Television Academy; and is a board member of the Sundance Institute, College Track and the American Cinematheque.
