Shaun Micallef is returning to the ABC with a new comedy show, a year after his long-running Mad As Hell was axed.
The 61-year-old comedian’s new show debuted at ABC Upfronts in Sydney on Thursday and will feature Micallef’s signature intellectual comedy.
Micallef said in a statement that his new program will be different from what is currently on television.
“There will be no cooking, no home renovations, no weddings, no singing, no sports, no RBT units, no dogs, no wilderness survival, no quizzes, no news clips or photos,” he began.
“It’s not about wearing masks, border patrol, amazing races, Lego, sitting on a blackboard or being stranded on an island in your underwear.”

The veteran comedian has appeared on numerous hit ABC shows, including Mad As Hell, The Ex PM and The Micallef Program, as well as several shows on commercial networks.
In September 2022, it was announced that Micallef would release a tell-all book, Tripping Over Myself, about the behind-the-scenes secrets of his hit ABC series Mad As Hell.
The Newstopia star has promised fans he won’t hold back in the book, which was released last year.

The 61-year-old comedian’s new show was launched at ABC Upfronts in Sydney on Thursday.
He even named and shamed a politician who complained about the way they were portrayed on the satirical comedy sketch show.
Mad as Hell, hosted by Shaun, satirizes Australian politics and has been a consistent ratings winner for ABC since its debut in 2012.
Shaun described his new book to TV Tonight: “It’s the story of Mad as Hell, the story of every comedy I’ve done.”

Micallef said in a statement that his new program will be different from what is currently on television
“It’s subtitled: A Memoir of a Life in Comedy. So I’m talking about my love of comedy.”
The news came after it was announced that ABC would cancel “Mad as Hell” in 2022.
The cast and crew received the sad news in July 2022 that the season would be the last of the hit comedy.
