Keith told Rolling Stone magazine in 2016 that if 54-year-old Nicole chose to leave him after her rehabilitation in 2006, she would have figured it out, since the couple had just got married that year.

“I was very, very lucky that Nic called me,” Keith said, adding that his reckless behavior “caused my new marriage to explode.”

It was also reflected in her conversation with Oprah Winfrey, admitting to the famous talk show host that she was “derailed” in her life and “needs help and a new direction”.

Nicole, who was working in Rome at the time, returned to the United States and gathered her friends to arrange an intervention.

Keith has been open about his past struggles with alcohol addiction and revealed at the 2018 South By Southwest conference in Texas that he wished he was sober early in life.

Keith also admitted that he “spoiled relationships” before meeting Nicole, and that the words of love were far from reality.

‘I used to write these songs about love and relationships; I remember writing Someone Like You and playing for my girlfriend at the time, and she just looked at me and said, “You’re a hypocrite,” and I couldn’t argue with that.”

Keith and Nicole met in 2005 and were married a year later. They are the parents of 13-year-old Sunday Rose and 11-year-old Faith Margaret.
