‘General Hospital’ star Eden McCoy reacts to the trolls of her Emmy nomination for her younger performer: ‘Should I be ashamed?’

General Hospital‘s Eden McCoy won’t let an internet troll spoil her third Daytime Emmy nomination for playing Josslyn Jacks on the ABC Sudser.

After a Twitter user criticized how 19-year-old McCoy was pitted against two elementary-age actors — Cary Christopher of days of our lives and Henry Joseph Samiri of The bald and the beautiful McCoy hit back on social media by writing, “Oh, should I be ashamed of my nomination now?”

“Shame on anyone who tweets this,” McCoy continued. “Regardless of the changing rules in the Young Artists category, I stand by the quality of my work EVERY year I’ve been at GH (going through 8 btw). My two previous nominations were in years when the category was 25 and under. Several talented actors my age who did great work this year and those “kids” whose work you belittled were nominated before them. I’m proud of Henry and Cary. Your disrespect is embarrassing. The fact is that everyone deserves what they get. Do it better.”

Four actors were originally nominated in this year’s Younger Performer category, including Victoria Grace of days of our lives. But on Friday, 21-year-old Grace – who plays Wendy Shin in the Peacock drama – announced via Instagram that she was withdrawing from the competition due to a “big misunderstanding across the board about the rules for this year’s category”.

Two years ago, the Younger Performer category was open to soap actors under the age of 25. After that, it was restricted to actors under the age of 21, before it was changed again in 2022 by limiting it to actors under the age of 18 – who means her year of birth must not be later than January 1, 2004.
