Kate Beckinsale has shared her terrifying experience with catfish who allegedly lured victims to turn up at her home – and revealed how she was eventually forced to move out after a string of strange men appeared on her doorstep late one night.

Speaking to her 5.5 million Instagram followers on Wednesday, the 49-year-old actress revealed that during lockdown “several men” were caught online by “scammers” posing as her, leading the boys to believe they were ‘ would have a relationship with her – previously invited her to his home in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood star revealed that the boys’ attack left her and then-boyfriend Goody Grace, 25, living in fear, while the catfish victims were “humiliated” when they learned the truth, with some eventually arrested.

The scammers were so desperate to fool their victims that they even created fake social media profiles for their beloved cat Clive, who became an internet celebrity thanks to his presence on Kate’s Instagram account.

“During the lockdown, several men were ambushed by flying from out of state to Los Angeles, finding out my home address and late at night (a number of nights over a period of several weeks) at showing up at my front door. some kind of relationship,” she wrote.

“Me and my boyfriend at the time absolutely loved it, the guys who were hooked were humiliated and some arrested, the scammers weren’t caught and eventually I had to move.”

Making it clear that she would never personally contact men on social media, she shared a video clip of comedian Jimmy Wyngarde playing a lovelorn man who was convinced he was having a cyber affair with Kate.

Kate captioned the hilarious clip: “I’m posting this again because a) @[Jimmy] (who I don’t know personally) made it and it’s funny and really well done and b) can this please be the definitive answer for anyone who thinks I’m texting them or talking to them on Google Hangouts or asking them to Money or send photos of my passport or driver’s license – or have my personal assistant notify it on my behalf or something similar – this is definitely not me and you are being exploited in a horrible way and please report and block anyone who does this do to you Long story short, if you think I’m writing to you, I’m not.”

Kate’s fans were quick to offer their support, with some even revealing they had been approached by scammers posing as the star but ignored the news.

One follower said there were fake profiles posing as her Persian cat.

He shared: “Unfortunately I have received messages from those here impersonating you and other select (now) [even] does a fake Clive profile appear?) and on Facebook, [some] I even used your profile picture to lure me in, but I was smart and thought damn.’

Horrified, Kate replied, “Oh god, not Clive either, is there nothing sacred?”

Another fan lightened the mood by joking: “Oh I’ve been waiting for you at Wolverhampton station for three hours now where are you Kate? PS just the five minute argument is enough for now,” prompting Kate to warmly reply, “Hahaha.”

A source told People at the time that the split “wasn’t a problem for Kate,” adding, “It was great for Kate to have him with her during lockdown.”

The source went on to say that Goody is “young and has different priorities than hers” and that Kate “totally understands that.”

Kate was previously married to director Len Wiseman for 12 years, but filed for divorce in 2016.

Alongside a series of photos, the mum-of-one wrote: “Rough week or two for us both. Thanks to everyone who loved us. Prayers for my Clive and better days.”

Kate hasn’t publicized her own or her cat’s health issues, but fans were quick to share their support and well wishes.
