The stars of joy ride will receive the Comedy Ensemble of the Year award at CinemaCon next month. Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu and Sabrina Wu will be honored at the Confab’s Big Screen Achievement Awards at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on April 27 in Las Vegas.
“The cast of joy ride delivers a fearless and over-the-top hilarious performance that will delight audiences with its hysterical, no-holds-barred journey through friendship and self-discovery,” said CinemaCon director Mitch Neuhauser. “This brilliant group of actors captures the essence of the chaotic human experience.”
Here is the logline for it joy ride, of the first time directed by Adele Lim, who co-wrote Crazy rich Asians And Raya and the last dragon: When Audrey’s (Park) business trip to Asia goes awry, she enlists the help of Lolo (Cola), her irreverent childhood friend who also happens to be a hot-shot gangster; Kat (Hsu), her colleague, has become a Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Complete with some bridesmaidAs gimmicks, their experience becomes a journey of connection, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.
Ronny Chieng, Desmond Chiam, Alexander Hodge and Chris Pang also star in the Lionsgate pic produced by Point Gray and Red Mysterious Hippo.
CinemaCon attracts thousands of film professionals from all facets of the industry – from screening and distribution to equipment and licensing – to celebrate the cinema experience and the film industry. The event takes place from April 24 to 27 at Caesars Palace.
