The biggest fashion night is traditionally held on the first Monday in May to raise money for the New York Costume Institute, and last year the event was postponed to September due to the pandemic.

This year’s dress code is the ‘golden glamor’, a sequel to ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ that fits the theme of ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’.

Tickets for the flamboyant event can reportedly cost $35,000 each, with table prices ranging from $200,000 to $300,000, and last year’s party grossed a staggering $16.4 million for the Met’s Costume Institute.

Regina King, power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda take over as hosts this time. Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka.

This will be the first time Miranda has co-chaired (and hosted) the Met Gala, but was originally supposed to host the 2020 edition before the pandemic required it to be cancelled.

Vogue director Anna Wintour is once again leading the aid as president, a position she’s held since 1995. Its honorary presidents are designer Tom Ford and Instagram chief Adam Mosseri.

As always, the tailoring theme of the premiere’s opening exhibition will be ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’, the second two-part exhibition by extraordinary curator Andrew Bolton, which explores the roots of American style.

This exhibition features some of the best film directors and some lesser known designers, such as Sofia Coppola, Martin Scorsese, presenter King and last year’s Oscar winner Chloé Zhao.

Bolton said eight directors will create what he calls “cinematic cartoons” in the period halls of the museum’s American wing.

As with the September event, there will be 400 guests this year, which is less than the pre-pandemic peaks of 500-600 attendees.
