Sade Adu (better known as Sade), Alanis Morrisette’s longtime collaborator Glen Ballard, Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne, founder of the Electric Light Orchestra, Teddy Riley, pioneer of New Jack Swing, and Liz Rose, collaborator with Taylor Swift the inaugural members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the organization’s 52nd annual induction and awards gala.
The event will take place on Thursday 15 June at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. Other special prizes will be announced soon.
The venue announced its latest nominees today, with chairman Nile Rodgers saying in a statement: “The music industry wouldn’t exist without songwriters who deliver great songs first. Without them there would be no sound carriers, no concert business, no merchandise . . . nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.” He added that the 2023 list included “So we’re very proud to continue to recognize some of the most culturally significant songwriters of all time, and that the 2023 list includes “not only iconic songs, but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally changed the music and lives of billions of listeners around the world in their time.
The songwriters and their most important songs named by the Hall of Fame are:
