The Buffalo Bills reported on the morning of Jan. 3 that Damar, 24, went into cardiac arrest during the game and was revived on the field by paramedics before rushing him to a nearby hospital. “Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest following a stroke in the Buffalo Bills game against the Cincinnati Bengals,” the official statement confirmed. “His heart rate was restored on the field and he was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and in critical condition.”
The game was immediately postponed and will not be rescheduled this week, according to a memorandum Presented by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Damar remains in critical condition.
NFL fans and athletes immediately took to social media to send their prayers and love to Damar, who attended the University of Pittsburgh from 2016 to 2020. The release also thanked the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals zac taylor and to the team for “everything they’ve done”.
The statement concluded by asking readers to continue praying for Damar and promised updates would be shared when possible.
