Anti-aging makeup: life tips from makeup artists on how to make your face look younger

Aging is an inevitable process and, of course, it can be stopped by procedures and surgical interventions, but the condition of the skin is still changing. If at 20 we calmly try any shades of lipstick and blush, then after 40 years makeup must follow certain rules.

I don’t mean to be ageist, but some eyeshadow colors or the wrong foundation application can add a few years to your actual age.

That’s why we decided to talk to makeup artists and ask them which makeup tips will help refresh your face.

Properly applied make-up, taking into account the characteristics of aging skin, will help you look younger. Makeup artist Zakhar Grinov explains the features of age-related makeup.

Face

The face gradually loses its oval shape and begins to fall downwards. Therefore, our aim in make-up is to achieve a lift effect.

To do this, apply a light concealer along a line running from the center of the chin to the edge of the lower jaw. This technique will visually hide the double chin and create a rejuvenating effect. Next you need to shade the light tone upwards. Important: All movements and lines of the brush are drawn only upwards. Using a large powder brush, apply matte bronzer to the lower jaw area and upper neck. The darker tone of the bronzer will blend with the shadow under the chin, which will also help hide the jowls. It is important not to overdo the bronzer color so that everything looks natural. To lift the cheekbones of your cheeks, apply powder or light shade on the tops of your cheekbones and dark powder or shade just below your cheekbones. Light colored powder can be used to decorate the T zone, and dark colored powder can be used to decorate the wings of the nose.

Muscles

Over time, the density of eyebrows decreases. Therefore, it is important to carefully fill in the gaps and emphasize the shape of the eyebrows using light shadows or pencil. You can also extend the corners of your eyebrows slightly upward to make your look lighter.

eyes

For eye makeup, use light shades of eye shadow and highlighter that add shine to the eyes and open up the look. Shimmer (but without large sparkles) will give the image a more fresh, rested and youthful look.

Lips

Unfortunately, with age, lips lose their volume and elasticity, so you need to use lipsticks with moisturizing ingredients and slightly emphasize the contour with a pencil. It is better not to choose too bright and heavy colors and prefer pastel shades.

All makeup artists agree on one thing – the main feature that distinguishes age-related makeup from regular makeup is careful preparation. If you have the opportunity to visit a beautician before an important event, you should take advantage of it. If you don’t have time for this, you can do it on your own. SLOWMO TSVETNOY’s make-up artist Natalya Kolomiets tells you how to properly prepare your skin for applying make-up:

– If you have normal or oily skin, it is better to prepare it using a peeling pad – with a rough surface, apply without strong pressure, paying special attention to the T-zone, wings of the nose and with the smooth side. Cleanse the entire face, neck and décolleté area with the disc. If your skin is dry, you can skip the first step.

— Then use a gel-textured essence or toner. It should be applied liberally to the entire treated surface. The secret of these products is that they provide good additional moisture, which is necessary to remove makeup.

— Then apply a serum that has a firming effect or contains hyaluronic acid.

— The final touch is the cream for the face and around the eyes. After careful preparation, you can start applying makeup.

For those who do make-up at home, Olga Romanova, the famous make-up artist and creator of the Romanova make-up brand, explained what common mistakes can be made when creating day and evening make-up.

thick foundation

If the skin is dry and there are fine wrinkles, any dense texture will emphasize the so-called flaws. And if the skin is thick and prone to oiliness, facial wrinkles will be fewer, but more wrinkles. Therefore, rich tissues are likely to be feathered. My advice is to choose lighter products (pillows, emulsions, liquids). Additionally, a loose concealer will help eliminate redness or dark circles under the eyes.

Big glitter highlighter

There’s no way around anti-aging makeup without highlighter – only it can deliver the effect of smooth, radiant skin. But there is one important “but” – reflective particles should not be large. Otherwise, the highlighter will, on the contrary, emphasize small wrinkles. Apply the product in a “C” shape from the outer corner of the eyebrow to the cheekbones of the cheeks.

Wrong color blush

Blush is a product that can brighten your face with a single touch. The important thing is to choose the right shade. Brick and matte blush can add age to the face, but soft pink and peach, on the contrary, will refresh it. They should be applied according to the same principle as the highlighter.

Misuse of sculptor

A sculptor has only one main rule; the less the better. You need to be careful not to overdo it. Remember that excessive graphics add age, so all products should be carefully shaded.

Inappropriate eyebrow shade

If your natural eyebrows are wide, you don’t need to touch them at all. If adjustment is required, this should be done carefully. Eyebrows that are too dark and graphic make the look heavier and add age. The distance between them is also important: they should look natural and be in harmony with other facial features. Draw a line from the tip of your nose to your forehead. The eyebrow should start at this point.

Cool shades of shadows

Eye makeup colors should be as refreshing and light as the blush tone. But it is better to avoid cold tones. You also need to pay attention to the texture – matte shadows can only be on the eyelids when the skin is toned. Otherwise, it is better to choose bright shadows with small reflective particles.

As I said before, it is better to avoid graphics. But a shaded arrow is an excellent option. To do this, choose a pencil of light shades – olive, brown or metallic. The black shadow will make the image heavier. By the way, inner metal eyeliner applied to the mucous membrane and inner corners of the eye beautifully refreshes the look.

A quick way to “rejuvenate” your face is to plump your lips. You will need a neutral skin color pencil. Use it to outline your lips, going a little beyond what’s natural (this is acceptable). Complete your lip makeup with gloss. For pronounced wrinkles, it is better not to use bright lipstick, so as not to draw attention to flaws. However, if you still want color, apply concealer to the outer corners and tap the lipstick lightly with your fingertips. You will have a beautiful kissed lips effect.

“The texture of the bronzer should preferably have some shine added to it. We exclude cold tones, we need a product with a bronzing effect, which gives the skin a super-rested look. Take it with a fluffy brush and apply it to your cheekbones, chin and neck. And of course blush – no lifting makeup can do without them. The shadows should be extremely light, but not too pigmented – powdery. Apply the blush with light movements with a fluffy brush. There must be half a tone on your face. It is important to draw them in the right places on the face – towards the cheekbones, temples and under the eyebrows (this technique will harmonize the shadows on the face and make the look lighter and “sleepy”). ”

“Makeup base is a must. Before applying make-up, the skin needs to be evened. Primer will help you with this; It will fill in fine wrinkles and even out the texture.”

“I like to apply foundation with a sponge and add a drop of liquid highlighter to remove makeup. For eye makeup, use cream shadows: they can be matte or glossy. The most important thing is to apply it thinly enough not to weigh down the delicate skin of the eyelids. Another trick is to apply satin eye shadow with a damp brush.”
