The sleeping couple and their infant were unaware of the growing blaze and did not wake up when their home smoke detector sounded. The fire originated inside the garage before spreading rapidly through the building ventilation system into the attic.

The young sisters were awakened in the early morning by an unusual popping noise. They explained that the sound resembled standing next to a microwave while popcorn was popping inside.

Looking out their bedroom window, the girls saw large flames consuming the adjacent home. Ava noted that the fire was so large that it had almost reached their own house, prompting them to wake their mother immediately so she could call the neighbors.

Emergency response and rescue

Firefighters from the South Montgomery County Fire Department arrived promptly at the scene and extinguished the fire before it could destroy the entire residence. A responding firefighter stated that the incident could easily have ended in tragedy without the early alert.

Mia said she spent the duration of the firefighting operation praying that no one would be injured in the blaze. Fire officials confirmed that no injuries occurred and expressed their formal gratitude to Ava and Mia for their courage, alertness, and rapid response.

Residential fire risks

South Montgomery County is situated in southeastern Texas near Houston, where local fire authorities maintain round-the-clock emergency services for suburban communities. Fire prevention experts emphasize that working smoke alarms and attentive neighbors play a critical role in preventing casualties during early morning house fires when residents are asleep.

The heroic action comes after another recent fire incident in Texas, where a domestic goose named Goosie prevented a major blaze. The bird woke its owner with loud honking, allowing him to extinguish a fire in his barn before it could spread.
