EXCLUSIVE: “The core of our republic,” said Rep. Liz Cheney noted earlier this week, “is the guarantee of the peaceful transfer of power.”
The illusion that such a principle would always be upheld was violently shattered on January 6, 2021. Discovery+ today unveiled a trailer for the upcoming documentary January 6e, which takes viewers back to that momentous day as a supporter of pres. Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol in what many observers described as an attempted coup.

Cheney, Susan Wild, Adam Kinzinger and Jamie Raskin, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, police officers assaulted that day, and others. The film will be shown on the Discovery+ streaming platform on Thursday, January 5, 2023, the eve of the second anniversary of the uprising.
“January 6 is the full story of the attack on the Capitol, told by those who witnessed the chaos first hand. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to tell the story of this unprecedented moment in history as a human event and without political bias,” said Gédéon and Jules Naudet. “We believe that in moments when humanity’s worst is on display, there will always be heroes who in the face of tragedy emerge as shining examples of courage and selflessness. We hope that people will leave this film with a deep appreciation for the countless acts of courage, big and small, that day.”
In an interview in the trailer, voice actress Pelosi recalled how “security guards yanked me off the stage” as rioters stormed the room. Rep. Kinzinger (a member of the House of Representatives who heard the case on March 6)e Assault, along with Reps. Cheney and Raskin), revealed that he had a gun ready when insurgents broke into the US government headquarters.
“I have my gun on my desk to defend myself,” said Rep. Kinzinger said in the trailer.
“As we approach the two-year anniversary of the January 6 attack on the capital, it is more important than ever to share the definitive account of what happened that day with the people who were actually there,” said Igal Svet, VP, Documentary.
