Sofia Escallon joins Curate Management as a partner when the company acquires her Zipa Entertainment banner

EXCLUSIVE: Britton Rizzio’s boutique management company, Curate Management, which caters to film and television professionals, has announced the acquisition of Zipa Entertainment, the Mexico City-based management company founded by Sofia Escallon. Escallon now joins Curate as a partner and will lead the company’s international expansion efforts.

Zipa’s focus on bilingual and bicultural showrunners, writers and directors working in Latin America with the potential to break into other markets expands Curate’s value proposition and greatly expands its scope of representation. Clients include celebrity creators such as Fernanda Eguiarte, whose show La Flor Mas Bella, co-created with comedian Michelle Rodriguez, premiered on Netflix in early December; Miguel Garcia Moreno, the Spanish co-creator of the Netflix series Control Z; Isaac Cherem, the Mexican co-writer and director of the film Leona, which was nominated for seven Ariel Awards; Lucero Sanchez Novaro, Mexican director and writer, has been nominated for an Ariel Award for her short film mallow and co-writer of the Netflix series Todo Va a Estar Bien, directed by Diego Luna; and Mariana Levy, the Argentinian writer and producer of the Amazon show The presidentwhich returned for its second season in November.

“Sofia brings the experience of running a manufacturer-centric business and deep knowledge of the Latin American market,” Rizzo told Deadline. “Participating in Ventures gives our joint clients global reach with the benefit of hands-on representation.”

Escallon joined management in 2016 after a successful career in public relations at Miami-based Newlink Group. Her work focuses on advocating for a more authentic representation of modern Latino and Hispanic culture on screen.

Other notable clients of Curate, founded in 2021, include Jac Schaeffer (WandaVision), Emily St. Almond (station eleven), Our Lady J (attitude, American Horror Story), ears Uziel (The Lost City), Heather Quinn (Werewolf in the night), Cody Heller (dummy), Heidi Schreck (What the Constitution means to me) and Emily Carmichael (Jurassic World: Dominion).
