Holt was 96 and no details of her death have been released, although it was previously revealed that she had been hospitalized with pneumonia earlier this year.

Cher said she was “very careful” not to expose her elderly mother to possible illnesses during the pandemic.

“We have a little bit of a bubble that we’ve had all along,” she said. “We wear masks and we are not many. It’s my sister, my brother-in-law, my mother, my assistant. And we live far apart.”

She added: “I also have to be careful because I have asthma. … I have several health problems.”

Holt was born in 1926 in Arkansas. She moved to Los Angeles and had roles on shows like I Love Lucy and talk shows hosted by Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin. She released her debut album, Honky tonk womanin 2013, which she recorded in the 80s.

“She never gave me or my sister any advice because she honestly knew we would never take it,” Cher said of her mother. “Instead, we learned about life by listening to her talk about the things she did wrong and the things she did right.”
