Netflix is taking on Asterix with an animated version of the adventures of Gaul, the most famous in the comics.
The production and production of this new animated series, shaped around the character of Uderzo, which will be released in 2024, was entrusted to Alain Chabat, who wrote and directed the cult movie “Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” in 2002, the biggest success of Asterix. Many screenshots for French films and the fifth highest box office score of all time.
This new animated series inspired by the album “Le combat des chiefs” will consist of 5 episodes of 30 minutes each. Alain Chabat, Benoît Oullion, for whom he co-wrote the Burger Quiz sketches, and “Have you ever seen it?” He surrounded himself with Pierre-Alain Bloch, for whom he created the mini-series.
It’s a huge project to be ‘just in’ for the actor/director, who revealed the secret to the C à vous set in France 5 tonight. Production really takes time, as he explained to Pierre Lescure: “We are in everything at the same time. The characters find visuals of the characters for us to clearly recognize Asterix, Obelix and the whole gang. There are new characters to be created”. Concerned about paying homage to the original work, Alain Chabat adds, “this too must belong to the Uderzo universe.”
“Episodes have been written, now we mainly work on all the visuals,” he explains.
There is no official release date yet on the “Le Combat des Chefs” streaming platform, but here is the synopsis: “Panoramix went crazy after a menhir sent by Obélix unintentionally fell on his head! A disaster that makes Abraracourcix, the leader of the irreducible Gauls, forget the recipe for the magic potion when he is challenged by his rival, Aplusbégalix.
