Traitors (M6), a success story: "A psychological washing machine for candidates"

The M6 program, presented by Éric Antoine, was adapted from the Dutch concept where 14 people had to throw out three “traitors” among them and gave color to the channel’s viewers. His production at Studio 89, Florence Duhayot, returns to this historic achievement.

2.6 million people watched Traitors on Wednesday, August 17. Good news?

Florence Duhayot: Beautiful! Still the best launch for an innovation on the M6 in 21 years. A completely destructive and psychological game unlike any game on French television. The springs are different from what you usually see there. That’s what we liked when we got the format. We wanted to provide audiences with unique entertainment.

Was it a risky bet?

Yes, because it is a program where participants talk a lot. But through the arrangement the whole becomes fascinating and reveals the human nature of each. We know role-playing games are very popular in France, but we weren’t sure if they were popular on the air as well.

What do you think the audience liked?

Each other’s journeys to procrastinate and find traitors. It’s tiring for them, but exciting for those who watch. You should also know that the personalities participating in the show are very actors in life. That was the criterion for hiring them. After two hours of filming, they were in another world. They really got into the game of this psychological washing machine.

How do you react to the discussions in this series where the participants are buried alive?

This test was conducted in the Netherlands and Belgium, two countries that reacted on Twitter wondering why it shocked the French. It’s part of the show’s concept. Games are made in such a way that personalities cross each other psychologically. On the production side, everything is under control, no danger.

Will there be a sequel?

Yes, two more evenings are already planned.

Do we owe this success to Eric Antoine?

Certainly ! Hosts in other countries where the show aired were much stricter than he was. He really added humor and mystery with his magician personality. We bet on him exactly because he’s a stage man. We will continue to entrust the programs to him, it is a pleasure to work with him.
