Nicola Sirkis in mourning: tribute to Jonathan Destin, a young man victim of school abuse

Nicola Sirkis, leader of the Indochine group, was touched by the death of Jonathan Destin, a young man who became a symbol of combating bullying at school after he attempted suicide.

A story that upset the French. Jonathan Destin had been the victim of severe school harassment, from his CM2 class to college in the town of Marquette-lez-Lille. On February 7, 2011, a 16-year-old desperate young boy tried to end his life by setting himself on fire. Heavily injured and 70% burned, he survived. To treat him, the young man fell into a coma for two and a half months, after which he underwent twenty-three operations. He released a TV movie called TF1 in 2018. The day I burned my heart adaptation of his autobiographical work sentenced to kill me which traces the story that led him to this suicide attempt.

On Monday, August 22, his mother, Marie Pierre Destin, announced with pain that Jonathan Destin had died at the age of 27. “WITH Everyone who knew Jonathan from his story, from his book, from schools, who met him one day, talked to you, followed us for years, unfortunately I have sad news for you, Jonathan has passed away. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at my house in his sleep. I’m announcing this to you with a broken heart”He wrote on Facebook.

Nicola Sirkis, on the other hand, reacted emotionally to this disappearance, which affected him personally. Indeed, he had worked with Indochina leader Jonathan Destin on this cause of school harassment and invited him to perform with her. “Jonathan is always by your side forever”tweeted the artist. “Bullying exists in every country in the world. This is an extremely severe, recurring problem. (…) We cannot say that nothing happens to fight against it, but it still exists. It’s incredible… It’s always there, the place where we need to be protected, loved and educated. It should be a national cause. You have to go to college or high school with your head held high. Bullies are mean people, and just because they have too many doesn’t mean they’re right.” Nicola Sirkis was announced at La Voix du Nord in 2020.
