“All the Light We Cannot See” Becomes Only Original in Nielsen’s Top 10 Most-Streamed November Titles; Thanksgiving helps with the monthly TV usage bubble

The public spends more time in front of the television than usual in November.

In fact, according to Nielsen’s latest monthly TV viewership report, The Gauge, TV usage rose 5.7%, the highest recorded month since January 2023. This was of course accentuated by Thanksgiving week, when overall ratings peaked, recording an increase of over 14%.

Streaming once again had the largest share of TV consumption at 36.1%. This was particularly boosted by purchased program hits such as: Bluey, Grey’s Anatomy, Suits, FriendsAnd Gilmore Girls. Six feet underground was also one of the most streamed titles in November after the 20-year-old HBO series landed on Netflix.

And then there was something else We cannot see all the light. The Netflix World War II drama was the only streaming original to make the top 10 streaming titles of the month with 2.14 billion minutes watched. That’s a pretty incredible feat for the four-episode limited series, combining a series of titles with hundreds of episodes to reach that total.

Netflix saw an 8.6% increase in usage this month. Meanwhile, Peacock saw a 23% increase in usage thanks to football coverage and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — the biggest usage increase among streamers.

Television consumption also increased in November to 24.9% of TV usage. It’s also the highest the category has seen since January, even though airings were down more than 5% year-over-year. According to Nielsen, sports viewership increased 21% in November compared to October, meaning the genre makes up a third of all television viewers.

That leaves cable television, which hit a low of 28.3% of TV usage in November. On a year-over-year basis, the category was down 13%. Movies have overtaken cable news as the most-watched genre on cable television.
