Seth Meyers has one Saturday Night Live Secret.
In an interview with the podcast Las Culturistas, hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, Meyers – a former Saturday Night Live Head Writer – discusses a 2008 episode with host Anne Hathaway and musical guest The Killers.
“This is the only time I can remember the show ending, the audience giving a standing ovation and the Killers performing again,” Meyers said after the show.
The Killers made at least one other big impression.
“My parents were at the show,” Meyers recalls, “and I introduced my mom to the Killers, and as they walked away she said very loudly and they heard, ‘Well, I don’t know why they call themselves the Killers. . ‘ .’ , they couldn’t be nicer. “
The 2008 season was satisfactory for Meyers. “This year, I’ve never felt like I was on a winning team with Sarah Palin,” he said. “It was really hot and the return of Tina (Fey) … I felt like we understood that we had to continue to excel and it was so exciting and so much fun.”
Co-host Rogers said he was in the audience for the episode hosted by Hathaway. “I sat there and just thought, ‘This energy is so crazy and so wild’ that it’s going to drive me for the rest of my life,” he said. “And the other thing I remember, and it’s you, is how fucking cool you were when you came out for ‘Weekend Update’ and you high-fived all the interns and everyone in the theater was like, ‘It’s Seth Meyers.’ !’”
