Canadian Prime Minister pays emotional tribute to his former classmate Matthew Perry

Justin Trudeau has joined those paying emotional tributes to Matthew Perry following his death on Saturday.

The Canadian prime minister went to school with the former Friends star, and he reminisced about their younger days together in his social media post.

Trudeau wrote:

“The death of Matthew Perry is shocking and sad.

“I will never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world will never forget the joy he brought them.

“Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and we will miss you.”

Perry was reportedly found in his hot tub at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday after first responders were called to the scene on Saturday afternoon. There were no reports of crime and no drugs were found.

Perry attended Rockcliffe Park Public School in Ottawa, Ont., with Trudeau and previously revealed that he and several other friends once beat up the future political leader.

He told Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2017:

“My friend Chris Murray reminded me that we actually beat Justin Trudeau.

“We both beat him. I think he excelled in a sport we didn’t know, so it was just jealousy. So we beat him.

“I’m not going to brag about it, it’s terrible. I was a stupid child.”

Trudeau was not offended by this report, saying on social media at the time:

“I thought about it, and you know what, who didn’t want to hit Chandler?

“How about a rematch against Matthew Perry?”

Perry fans came together to remember the star Friends Castmates, starring in a comedy that defined an era and is still loved around the world.
