Self-love, the relationship with the body, the opinions of others, acute reflections, self-confidence… How do we experience our body when we do not correspond to social standards of thinness? Here are two thoughtful documentaries, recently released, which addressed this question, giving voice to those who ask themselves or have asked themselves at some point in their lives.
“You’re Fat” by Sarah Merzouk
In this intimate documentary, director Sarah Merzouk “ gives voice to 19 fat people, whether or not they are aware of their bodies”. In turn they reveal themselves, they talk about this body that they accept or not and of their perpetual confrontation with the gaze of others, in their romantic relationships as in their daily interactions.
“How can we ignore it and live in society? Why are fat people considered lazy and lacking willpower? ». These questions are at the center of the interviews conducted by the director, who has created a powerful first documentary and in 30 minutes makes the most stubborn fatophobic prejudices fly away.
