Richard Moll, best known as the big sheriff “Bull Shannon” on the long-running NBC sitcom night courtdied October 26 at his home in Big Bear Lake, California. He was 80 and his family gave no reason why.
Moll was 6’3″ tall and was a character actor, but he worked steadily throughout his career. night court ran from 1984 to 1992 and regularly caught the attention of casting directors with his commanding presence, deep voice and endearing manner.
After night courtMoll landed a recurring role on the sitcom Come (NBC, 1992-94) starring Cindy Williams before appearing in an episode of the cult sci-fi hit Babylon 5 (TNT, 1993-99). He also voiced the bodyguard of the animated film’s title character Mighty Max (syndicated, 1993-1994).
Is night court During his time he was also able to move on to bigger films and work as a voice actor for animated series, often relishing the opportunity to play the villain. Minor was the voice of Harvey Dent/Two-Face The Adventures of Batman and Robin (Fox, 1992-95) and Scorpion onwards Spider-Man: The Animated Series (Fox, 1994-98).

Additional credits include Bad stepmother (1989), Think big (1990) and make me angry (1991).
Richard Charles Moll was born on January 13, 1943 in Pasadena, California to Harry and Violet Moll, the youngest of three children. In his early years, he spent time in California and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where he developed a love for nature. Others were tall for his age and often assumed he played sports, but he was much more academically inclined.
He graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in history and discovered his love of acting through the Will Geer Theater, where he performed in works by Shakespeare.
In 1999, Moll was cast against type in the satirical romantic comedy. But I’m a cheerleader, with Natasha Lyonne. He continued to appear on television.
Character parts follow in the films evolution (2001) and Scary movie 2 (2002), Moll played larger roles in television films such as No place is like home (2003) and The headless horseman (Syfy, 2007).
An avid bird watcher and nature lover, Moll spent his retirement in the mountain community of Big Bear Lake.
Moll’s parents Violet and Harry Moll as well as his stepfather Milton Berle have already passed away. He is survived by his children Chloe and Mason Moll as well as his ex-wife and good friend Susan Moll and stepchildren Cassandra Card and Morgan Ostling.
