The ninth episode of season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be a true musical composed by Kay Hanley and Tom Polce of rock band Letters to Cleo.

It took 57 years for Star Trek to finally have a musical episode.

Music is no stranger to Star Trek. As the future of human culture, Starfleet officers do not mind singing from time to time. This season, however, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds goes even further by offering a full-fledged musical episode for the first time in series history.

The news was announced as part of the Star Trek Universe panel at Comic-Con in San Diego last Saturday, along with a promotional video for the episode, which will be called “Subspace Rhapsody.”

As seen in the trailer, Enterprise will find itself upended when the investigation into a subspace anomaly creates a wave on the ship, forcing the crew to sing out loud. And it’s not just the crew: It looks like Lieutenant James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) is back on board.

Season 2 of “Strange New Worlds” hinted at the musical talents of its actors. Uhura, played by Celia Rose Gooding, showed off her vocal prowess in the episode where she sang tones to activate an alien technology. This musical episode will give him the opportunity to sing a few high notes.

The original songs for “Subspace Rhapsody” were composed by Kay Hanley and Tom Polce of the rock band Letters to Cleo.

“Subspace Rhapsody” will be Episode 9 of Season 2 of “Strange New Worlds” and will premiere on Paramount+ on August 3.

This isn’t the only Star Trek announcement at this year’s Comic-Con. Paramount+ released the next episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds five days early. This is also the highly anticipated crossover episode featuring a live-action version of some Star Trek: Lower Decks cast.
