A year and a half after the birth of her first child, the actress returns to the cinema at the age of thirty, ready to do anything to save her family home.

First of all, is the script of the movie about a young woman hired by her parents to flirt with their 19-year-old withdrawn son correct?

Jennifer Lawrence : Definitely ! When we came across this commercial, director Gene Stupnitsky and I laughed out loud. The real question was who would answer this and, above all, which parents could write! A few years later, Gene gave me the script for the movie. I’ve never read anything so funny.

Have you been waiting for such a project for a long time?

I did not expect anything! I was definitely not looking for a job. I took a break (since 2019, editor’s note), refusing to even read the scripts sent to me. But Gene is a friend. So I thought, okay, I’ll take a look. Four months later we were shooting the movie. I always dreamed of doing a comedy like this. according to me Challenge pushes the limits of nonconformity!

We think the character Maddie looks like you…

I hope I make better decisions than him! (Laughs). But I recognize myself in your determination. Not to mention the fancy language I shared… enough to terrify my manager!

Is it hard to say no when you’re a Hollywood superstar and want a break?

Much less than you think. I’m really grateful that I finally got time to myself. I worked hard in my twenties, especially with epic Hunger Games, I felt I had the right to enjoy the present moment.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your life?

As a professional, passage (released on Apple TV+ in 2022). It was a really difficult movie. We were shooting in New Orleans in the middle of the summer: it was over 40 degrees, that’s bad when you’re wearing a military uniform. We also had a budget problem, some decisions were made and I regretted it, but it was out of my hands. Then Covid came and we finished filming two years later.

And personally?

Motherhood. This is very tiring !
Looks like you can’t say no to reprising the role of Katniss Everdeen. Hunger Games

That’s right, I’m ready!

You came to present at the Cannes Film Festival this year. bread and rosesis a documentary about Afghan women that you produced. Can you tell us more?

When Kabul fell back to the Taliban in 2021, we were all worried. Female doctors suddenly lost their right to be examined and had to stay at home. I couldn’t close my eyes. I wanted to shoot a camera there. Even a phone with a camera! To remind that these women deserve all the freedoms in the world like us.
