The Temple of All Dangers
In the great tradition of James Bond, Spielberg imagines a prologue that becomes a model of the genre. future director in 12 minutesAND presents his hero, his favorite objects (his whip and hat), abilities (intuition and courage). And his weaknesses: Professor Jones has the art of creating confusion. The highlight of this entry (inspired by a Scrooge comic!) is the massive stone ball that shoots out towards Indy. It is made of fiberglass and plaster, its weight is at least 135 kg. The player stumbles in his race. Little boo on the key. “Indiana Jones is vulnerable. She shows it when she hurts herself. Harrison Ford invented it.”, Spielberg admitted. It is this “failed” shot that the filmmaker will continue in editing.
There is a pilot on the plane.
After the hidden traps of the Inca temple, Indy, pursued by a tribe of angry Indians, jumps into a river and climbs into the cockpit of a taking off seaplane. In his race, Ford, who is absolutely inept, kicks one of the device’s shutters. The plane crashes behind a row of trees without much property damage. The actor and pilot will shoot the scene a second time without hesitation without injury. Unfamiliar with this episode, Harrison will perform less dangerous tricks like truck-chasing or fighting under the propeller of an airplane. The result: a damaged rib and knee.
Reptiles galore
In Well of Souls, Indy comes face-to-face with a huge cobra. Unlike his character, Ford is not afraid of snakes, but no one had to insist on convincing him that it was necessary to put a window between him and the reptile! Apart from this trick, the actors and technicians shot in the middle of a sea full of cobras, pythons and other boas. Even though the trainers had watched the snakes closely, you can imagine the agony of partner Karen Allen in a light dress and bare legs… She was stressed when she learned that venom serums had been ordered. It has expired in India!
done fast well done
The memorable scene in which a colossal warrior spins his machete before being shot by Indiana Jones was not planned in the script. “The whip versus saber: this would be the ultimate fight”remembers Harrison Ford. He couldn’t leave his trailer for more than ten minutes because he had dysentery. “It was the last streak in Tunisia before I moved to London and I was just thinking of leaving. I suggested to Spielberg that Indy hit this idiot by chance”. Simple and efficient. Today, as always, we watch the cult scene of this movie with pleasure.
