OBI-WAN KENOBI Director Discusses Show and Says Final Episode is Submitted for Emmy Consideration

Deborah Chowthe director of Lucasfilm Obi-Wan Kenobiwas recently a guest on the Crew Call podcast to talk about working on the series and the challenges that came with it.

Project Kenobi was initially planned as a film trilogy, and went through “numerous iterations” and passed through several talented hands before landing in Chow’s lab. The initial screenplay of the film was written by Stuart Beattyand previously shared details about his side of the story, which sounded way better than what we got.

Chow explains that from the beginning Kenobi was always conceived as “one big story” and added that it was “a journey into the character of Obi-Wan”. To ensure we capture Obi-Wan’s complex qualities in the aftermath of Order 66, great care has been taken Revenge of the Sith during the development of the series.

Since the series was planned as one big story, it made sense for Lucasfilm to hire a director to drive the story through. Does this make sense. I just wish the script would have been so much better. Many fans think that the series ended up being a complete disaster in the end. But that didn’t stop Disney from submitting it for Emmy consideration.

Yes, Chow revealed that they were submitting the final episode for Emmy consideration. He went on to talk about the heart of the series, saying, “The heart of the show will always be the scene between Hayden and Ewan with the broken mask. That was all the show was building on.

She also spoke about moments with young Leia, saying that “the new journey” that Kenobi set the characters on was really important to her.

Chow has previously compared the tone of the series to other films such as Joker AND Loganoexplaining, “I think I was the most excited about having the opportunity to do a character-driven story, in a similar way — it’s a different tone — but something like Joker or Logan, where you take a character from a big franchise and then you really have the time and you go much deeper with the character. So, that felt really exciting to do in Star Wars.”

Chow also discusses Obi-Wan’s journey in the series saying, “Obi-Wan is on a journey. There are going to be different people who will come into his life. One of the things I was trying to do with this series was have the legacy, and who is important in Obi-Wan’s life, and also have some new characters. So it will be a mixture of the two. But I think there are some surprises coming. I hope.”

The series starred Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen like Darth Vader, e Moses Ingram plays the new villain of the galaxy Reva. Friend Rupert is also in the series and plays the Grand Inquisitor, while Sung Kang plays the Fifth Brother. Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone KesselAND Benny Safdie also star.

Now that it’s been a while since the end of the series, what do you think?
