Kidnapped at the age of 9, Kayla was found thanks to a Netflix documentary!

Six years after Kayla disappeared in July 2017, she was able to find her father, who never stopped trying to find him.

On January 6, 2023, Ryan Iserka painfully celebrated the fifteenth birthday of his daughter, whom he had not seen for six years. She posted an artificial photo on Facebook, created by NCMEC (a center for searching for missing or exploited children, editor’s note) that shows what Kayla would look like in 2023 if she were still alive. The “Bring Kayla Home” Facebook page post was shared approximately 670 times. Indeed, when she received full custody of her daughter in the US state of Illinois in July 2017, her daughter’s mother, Heather Unbehaun, took advantage of her visitation rights to kidnap her. Ever since they disappeared, Ryan has never stopped looking for Kayla.

This time it’s not the social networks that work miracles, it’s the live broadcast! After watching the documentary series Unsolved mysteries (Unsolved Mysteries, Editor’s Note) On Netflix, the owner of Plato’s Closet store in Asheville, North Carolina recognized Kayla, whose story was told in an episode of the series. The man then contacted the police to warn them of the young teenager’s presence and finally brought this “cold case” to light six years later. The girl was later found and taken into custody by the authorities, while her mother was arrested and charged with child abduction. His bail was set at $250,000. Further charges are likely to be brought against him in the coming weeks. In a new message thanking the police and NCMEC, Ryan Iserka emotionally confirmed that he has finally reunited with Kayla:We get to know each other again and make that new start“.
