‘Jury Service’: James Marsden on ‘Lampooning Entitled Actors’ with elevated view; Possibly season 2

The new range of Freevee jury duty ready for Friday’s finale, and executive producer Nicholas Hatton and star James Marsden talked to Deadline about everything it took to make the docu-style comedy without anyone finding out. An exclusive featurette for jury duty see above.

Over 8 episodes, the series tells the inner workings of an American grand jury through the eyes of one juror, Ronald Gladden. Gladden is unaware that the whole thing is fake, everyone but him is an actor, including Marsden, and everything that happens – in and out of the courtroom – is carefully planned.

Hatton – who went on to work with Sacha Baron Cohen Borat later feature film And who is america– talked about how difficult the process was from start to finish of the show, as everything can fall apart at any point in the production. The key ingredient here was secrecy.

“As someone who has worked with Sacha Baron Cohen for a number of years, you get used to these confidentiality protocols. You start treating everything like you are a secret CIA agent and every secret is vital to the state. So it was quite natural to translate it jury duty,Hatton shared. “But it’s only as effective as the cast and crew want it to be. The great thing we had was that everyone bought the secret element and everyone became super spies and enjoyed it. This has allowed us to keep it from people as long as we have. Everybody knew at one point or another that talking about it might not work.”

Marsden shared that his experience worked jury duty was unlike anything he had experienced before. Not only did he become a super stealthy ninja on one mission, but he did it while playing an elevated version of himself, which really appealed to him.

“One of the exciting elements for me was the opportunity to completely make fun of Hollywood celebrities. These celebrities who think acting is the most important calling in the world and that there’s no interesting conversation unless it’s about one of their future projects,” Marsden said with a laugh without naming names.

The actor worked closely with Gladden — the two have remained friends since graduation — and every interaction was a bit of trial and error for Marsden so as not to offend Gladden.

“The difficult thing about Ronald was that we had to push those beats where I was ‘Jackass James Marsden’ but not push him in a way that he didn’t trust me or didn’t want to be seen with me,” Marsden said I remember, that I took it a little too far too soon and he switched to the other cast who are a little more normal and friendly, so I had to get him back into my good mood somehow , the experience that everyone was every day, agile to be and listen, observe and react and absorb I have never been so aware of my surroundings, you have to be present and go with everything because it is always evolving based on how he reacts, which used to be fun.

As difficult as it was to put it together, both Marsden and Hatton are very proud of all they were able to achieve. But like before, like producing a sequel to a movie borate when everyone has heard the secret – how can they do a season 2 without the world knowing what’s going on? It is difficult, but not impossible.

“We can do more, but it won’t be exactly the same format,” Hatton revealed. “Adjustments will be necessary as the process of finding these wonderful, real people involves a bit of cheating and over-the-top cuts and a way of pretending to be someone you’re not. So you have to be a little different procedure, and we have to keep it very, very secret.

He added: “There’s a lot more worlds of jury duty and a lot more iterations of that, and I think it could go in some incredible directions. We’ve got some things we’re picking up right now, and it’s really exciting. It’s a great proof of concept I’d say. People have told me a lot that it’s not going to work, so it’s hugely satisfying to come out the other side of this thing that we’re really, really proud of. It’s very exciting to think where we can go with it in the future.”
