Paleontologists have presented new evidence disproving the theory that dinosaurs went extinct before an asteroid hit 66 million years ago. Science reports this.
In the San Juan Basin in New Mexico, scientists discovered fossils of dinosaurs that lived in the area before the disaster. The researchers’ findings include the remains of a giant herbivore Alamosaurus the size of a blue whale, as well as Tyrannosaurus rex, horned Ochoceratops and other species.
As Professor Stephen Brusatti points out, previously the scientific community did not have enough fossils dating back to the last millennium before the asteroid impact. This is why most theories are based on analysis of older remains.
But new findings refute established theories. According to research, dinosaurs existed until one fateful day.
Meanwhile, previous scientists had made a fundamental discovery thanks to dinosaurs. Employees of the Argentinian Patagonian Institute of Geology and Paleontology discovered the remains of a dinosaur of a previously unknown species. Read more here.
