JK Rowling could be the CEO who is the new producer Harry Potter Series for Max, but Warner Bros. Discovery is now embarking on a writer-showrunner search.
This morning, David Zaslav and his team officially revealed plans to adapt the YA fantasy book series into a TV series as part of the launch of the new streaming service.
Writer Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts are producing with David Heyman and are currently in talks to do the same. Brontë Films and TV produces in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, said the search for someone to lead the series now begins in earnest.
“We tried to be very close to the vest,” said Bloys. “We didn’t go to agencies. We have our own internal process where we thought about people, but we didn’t want to go out into the world. Now that the news is out, we will work with Blair Partnership and go to the company.”
Today it was announced that the Harry Potter Series lasts for 10 years. It will be up to the writer/showrunner to work out how the seven Harry Potter books will be divided, Bloys said, adding that the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, could carry the entire first season, which may also contain snippets from other books.
