James Gunn says a DC/Marvel crossover is “more likely now” that he’s in charge

It’s a fever dream among superhero fans. And while a crossover between DC and Marvel films isn’t happening anytime soon, it’s definitely on the table, at least according to writer/director/executive James Gunn, who has worked on both camps.

The comics have already seen the characters in dual adventures dating back to the 1970s. Spider-Man teamed up with Superman and Batman, the Hulk fought Batman, and even the Silver Surfer met Superman. Not to mention the collaboration between Avengers and the Justice League of America.

Such a long tradition seems ripe for the exploitation of the film dome.

Gunn, who now runs DC Studios with Peter Safran, admitted it’s not far-fetched that such team-ups will one day become films.

In their latest issue, Empire mentions that Gunn sees the Games as an absolute opportunity. “I’m sure the chances are better now that I’m in charge [at DC]Gunn told the magazine: “Who knows?” But: “However, it is many years away. I think we need to define what we do [at DC] First of all. I’d be lying if I said we didn’t talk about it. But all the discussions were very, very light and fun.

Gunn’s latest involvement with the Marvel project, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, opens in theaters on May 5.
