‘Curb your enthusiasm’: Reports of HBO show’s end ‘grossly exaggerated’, says EP Jeff Schaffer

Do not send Control your enthusiasm not yet at an early grave.

After producer Jon Hayman hinted last week that the HBO series could come to an end with its upcoming 12th season, executive producer Jeff Schaffer told Deadline that is not necessarily the case.

“Reports of our deaths are greatly exaggerated. We literally finished filming last week. So yeah, we’re done,” he said, adding that the team, including Larry David himself, ends every season with the expectation that the streak may or may not continue.

“My first season was season 5. And do you know the name of the last episode of that season? ‘The end.’ Not ironically enough. That was 15 years ago. So every season is the last season. It’s always been that way,” he continued. “Larry brought whatever ideas he liked to the season. He’s the only one who thinks he’ll never get a good idea again. So of course he’s ready. But you know, usually he goes out and has vivid encounters with the west side of Los Angeles and then ideas come. So we are in the same place as always. It’s just business as usual.”

In short, the door is not closed? “There isn’t even a door,” Schaffer insisted.

As for what to expect from Season 12, Schaffer didn’t give many details, other than that the latest episode is “really, really fun.”

“It was one of the loudest laughs I’ve ever had on set,” he said. Since production has wrapped, Schaffer and the rest of the team have moved into editing.

He continued: “We’re writing it three times because we’re writing the outline, we’re writing it on set and we’re writing it now in the editing room.” It is impressive. It’s going to be a great season. I am very excited about it. And I think people will really like it.

HBO has not commented on whether or not the series will end. Last August, the premium network ordered a 12th season of the lead show His field Co-creator as an exaggerated version of himself. The series also stars Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, JB Smoove, Cheryl Hines, Richard Lewis, Vince Vaughn and Ted Danson.

Control your enthusiasm Executive producers are David, Schaffer and Jeff Garlin with Laura Streicher and Jennifer Corey serving as co-executive producers.
