Skweek: 100% basketball platform announces new projects and future goals

While Skweek is broadcasting the Euroleague match between Monaco and Valencia on Friday, March 24, the basketball platform, which went into operation last October, wants to improve its offer and offer more content to its subscribers.

Last October, Skweek entered the French audiovisual medium. The platform, 100% dedicated to basketball, won the rights of Euroleague and Eurocup. For many fans, it’s an opportunity to follow the pitches of French clubs such as ASVEL or Monaco, as well as the continent’s major teams such as Real Madrid, Olympiakos, FC Barcelona and even Fenerbahçe. On Friday, March 24, Skweek is broadcasting the match between Monaco and Valence exclusively from 7:00 pm and for the 30th day. This match is very important for the players of the Principality: indeed, a success will allow them to qualify for the play-offs of the European tournament.

For this thrilling second episode of the season, Skweek has decided to present a new offer: €9.99 for the last two months of competition, starting March 27. The program promises to be busy, as the platform will not be broadcasting 100 matches and less than 200 hours live. A few months after the launch of Skweek, Oleg Petrov wanted to give a preview at a press conference in Monaco. “We are pleased with the quality of the content, the broadcast of fifteen matches per week and an editorial team made up of the best French elements. We are happy to grow European basketball and make French basketball shine.“, explains the head of Fedcom Media. From the beginning, Skweek wanted to provide basketball fans with a unique experience. A 100% private platform with pre-games as well as information at the final whistle just as football fans can. In this respect, David Cozette thinks the mission has already been accomplished. “I worked at Canal+ for 15 years. I have never had such a production tool. We even have our own studio for meetings abroad. Working in these conditions is a pleasure.Skweek’s commentator explains it.

However, the platform is not intended to rest on its laurels. A few months ago, Oleg Petrov entrusted us with Skweek’s goals to bring the best to its subscribers. The platform pursues the dreams of the NBA as well as the rights of the French championship (Betclic Elite). “The talent is there, with players like Victor Wembanyama for example. French clubs are very competitive and deserve a luxurious, modern broadcast. We have to change the perception of the French championship. We also expressed that we want to broadcast the NBA when our contract with beIN Sports ends. We’ll be in line and fight for rightsIf the OTT platform is available by subscription only, it cooperates with L’Equipe to offer free matches to the French public. They continue to work on their hands.”It allows us to present the best of European basketball to our viewers. At the same time, this joint distribution with L’Equipe gives Skweek a very good showcase to develop.‘, explains Jérôme Saporito, director of L’Equipe’s TV division.

Beyond broadcasting live meetings, Skweek plans to introduce new editorial content in the coming months. Purpose: to take subscribers to the heart of basketball culture by addressing different themes such as sneakers, music, as well as more social news. In April, the platform will present a documentary about wearing a veil while playing basketball. “The French Federation has made progress in its rules banning the wearing of sports headscarves during matches. We decided to make a report to try to understand and go further. We looked at smaller amateur clubs as well as senators to get their opinions.“Says the channel. Skweek, which has always wanted to offer content in line with the interests and consumption patterns of young people, does not hesitate to look at e-sports in the future.”All of these issues concern us. The game is a parkour. We are still thinking about form, as we want to offer something different from what is currently possible. It also goes with this desire for us to improve everything that is social networks. The point is not to do things that already exist.“, explains Skweek.
