What motivated your participation?
Sure: I’ve been applying for 20 years. My motivations have improved over the years. At the age of 56, besides adventure, I had the opportunity to do personal introspection, to reflect on the meaning of life…
Did you have any concerns before going to the Philippines?
I’m not the greatest athlete, I knew at the beginning of the adventure that this would cause me some problems, but I was determined, nothing scared me.
Célia, the dean of the yellow team, said she had trouble communicating with members of her team. Did you experience the same thing with reds?
Not at all, I felt very good in my tribe, I got on well with everyone. It was more annoying for them to endure my snoring at night (laughs). I slept a little apart so as not to disturb them.
What was the hardest thing to endure in your conditions of survival?
The first night was especially difficult for everyone. I had a minor gastritis early in the game and it got better quickly with medication. Other than that, I think I adapt quickly to the life of an adventurer. As I felt less hungry than my comrades, I offered them my portion of cassava from time to time.
What did you think when you discovered the entire roster?
Considering my small size compared to other male adventurers, I wasn’t ahead. Also, I didn’t expect to be dean of nominations. During the obstacle course I thought to myself, “But what am I doing here? (laughs).
The Reds are very vocal about Helena’s behavior. Do you think it deserves it?
They accused him of being arrogant and selfish. It didn’t bother me personally. Besides, I hadn’t really heard what Helena said. On the other hand, during the formation of the teams, I heard Anne-Sophie – who was already very uncomfortable being chosen last – mutter “we’re going to throw this one out” when she was talking about Helena.
Alexandre clarified criticism of Helena. A strategy right for you?
He was playing his game, explaining to me from the first night that he was against elimination of the oldest or less athletic. In the first place, age is one of the first arguments put forward to justify elimination. These are pretty bad behaviors that are targeted in the coming days. This is where a profile like mine can slip through the cracks. As long as the criticism is directed at someone else, it has been very useful for me…
How did you approach counseling?
The day before, Alexandre told me that in the end everyone will vote against me. I felt betrayed, once you set a strategy you stick with it. When I found the strategic advantage, I was very happy, that’s it, I was saved, I said to myself. But when I realized this was “just” a double vote, I went down two floors. I didn’t know how to use it. Tired of my research, I didn’t really have clear ideas anymore.
During your elimination, “I embarked on a strategy against Helena. Finally, I became the turkey of the shenanigans » do you regret trusting too quickly?
I am a victim of history. The problem is, I let myself get immersed in Alexander’s strategy. In reality I had no control over it and that was fatal to me. It was not a carefully crafted plan by a few people. I was more like the person Alexandre had come to see while he was collecting information. I have been a victim of this strategy.
What is your best memory?
Having found the double vote. I definitely wanted to gain something during this adventure. From sunrise to sunset, I am proud to be determined and achieve my goal without stopping. I dedicate it to my loved ones.
