IMAX announced it The Shining One will hit its giant screens on December 12, marking the first time the 1980 classic will be screened in this format. While most horror fans would have loved to spend Halloween with Jack Torrance and the ghosts of Room 237, it looks like this experience will arrive just in time for blizzard season.
Tickets aren’t on sale yet, but IMAX has launched an official webpage where you can sign up for updates. Details on any remastering or restoration have yet to be confirmed. IMAX hasn’t shared details on what exactly will be new or updated for this re-release.
Considering Kubrick’s meticulous attention to detail and the film’s long legacy, this IMAX version is likely to retain the original cut, simply tweaked for the giant screen. Most fans watched The Shining One countless times at home and until now no one has seen it in IMAX.

Looking at IMAX’s upcoming schedule, there is a small gap between major releases as Evil: forever AND Zootopia 2 in the end of November e Avatar: Fire and Ash I arrive in mid-December. This leaves a small window for Kubrick’s classic to take over theaters before the holidays.
