An anime pilot film has been released for the upcoming project Naked Peak: Climb the mountains of madness. The pilot was released on YouTube and is based on the murder mystery tabletop RPG Mountain of madness series, which was inspired by a series of novellas by HP Lovecraft.
The anime comes from Forest Limit LC and THINKR Co. and was made through crowdfunding efforts, which raised more than $1 million dollars from 12,000 backers. So far, what they’ve done has turned out to be beautiful. I love what I see and can’t wait to find out more!
The project is described as follows:
A flight to Antarctica turns into a frantic rescue mission after the plane goes mysteriously missing. Efforts to locate the missing passengers lead rescuers to discover the plane’s course to a never-before-seen mountain range, the largest on Earth.
Rising more than 10,000 feet above sea level, the eighth wonder of the world eclipsing Everest (officially dubbed “The Mountains of Madness”) attracts the attention of the world’s top climbers and thrill-seekers. Though they have conquered the highest peaks in the past, Earth’s new dizzying heights are surpassed only by the terrible horrors that await them at the top.
Yusaku Kumagai (Naruto Shippūden: The Will of Fire, Doraemon the Movie: Legend of the Siren by Nobita) directed the pilot at Stereotype. Senbon Umishima (Black Bullet) AND Ryu Oyama worked on character and creature designs, respectively. Yasutada Kato (Case closed, Major) worked as an art director, and Chiemi Kurosaki (Crisis in the classroom, a pair of cuckoos) was the animation director. Madaraushi developed the original story and is an executive producer.
