SPOILERS WARNING! This post contains details of Season 27 Episode 5 of ABC The old bachelor.
Zach Shallcross’ trip across the pond with his remaining suitors didn’t go as planned in this week’s episode The old bachelor.
After his first one-on-one date in London, Zach contracted the coronavirus and shut down for the rest of the week. The week started well as Gabi got her first singles date since the contestants left Los Angeles.
Zach plans to treat Gabi “like royalty” as they drive through London, stopping at Gabi’s to create her own perfume, try on tiaras and dresses, and even share afternoon tea. During the night portion of the date, Gabi tells Zach how special the day made her, and he says he loves making her feel that way. Not surprisingly, he gives her the rose.
Even before Gabi’s date is over, there is some controversy in the hotel when she returns from the first half of the date with several shopping bags in her arms, which naturally confuses the other women. The details of the date don’t sit well with Greer, who gets quite emotional hearing how Gabi and Zach went about their day.
Greer is even more disappointed when she finds out that she is going on a group date with Brooklyn, Kat, Aly, Kaity, Ariel, Kylee, Jess and Mercedes. Last week, she expressed how happy she was already selected for a one-on-one interview, as her first impression was that she stood up. So if she is not re-elected, she will feel confused and discouraged.
On the day of the appointment, she decides to make the most of it. But before the women could leave, Zach texts them that the date is off.
“I have planned a wonderful date for all of you. I’m sorry to be a little down, but I don’t want to ruin your time here in London. Enjoy and see you soon,” his note said.
Of course, the women are pretty devastated not to spend the day with Zach. However, they hope he can catch up with them later for the cocktail. Meanwhile, they explore London together before being charmed for the night part of the date. They are disappointed again when Zach doesn’t show up for the cocktail party either.
They then learn that Zach has tested positive for COVID, and Charity’s one-on-one is canceled as well.
Once he’s better, Zach decides to have a virtual cocktail party with the women before a virtual rose ceremony. Each of the women takes the time to video chat one-on-one with Zach, giving them a chance to share some of the conversations that may have taken place on their dates.
To make up for missing his second one-on-one, Zach surprises Charity with a Big Ben figure as a “sign” to let her know he misses her.
The canceled dates make the rose ceremony a bit more interesting as only Gabi walks in with a rose. Before the ceremony, Zach gets emotional while talking to host Jesse Palmer about how he and the women were “robbed” together for a week. But he says he still thinks he knows who he wants to see next week.
Mercedes and Kylee are sent home.
The women returning next week are: Kaity, Gabi, Charity, Aly, Kat, Brooklyn, Jess, Ariel and Greer.
The old bachelor airs Monday nights at 8pm ET/PT on ABC and is available the next day on Hulu.
