Gerald Fried, a composer of some of the greatest television moments of the 1960s, died Friday in the St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, CT, died of pneumonia at age 95.
Fried won an Emmy for the miniseries carrotsSave the project when Quincy Jones missed several deadlines.
His career spanned the filming of five early Stanley Kubrick films, including Paths of Glory and The Killing, and he received the only Oscar nomination of all time for a documentary score, Birds Do It, Bees Do It 1975. Fried received five more Emmy nominations. during his long career.
Fried was a famous composer in his day. His CV includes providing music for episodes of Star Trek, Gilligan’s Island, The Man from UNCLE, Ben Casey, Mission: Impossible, Lost in Space, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, Mannix, Police Woman and Dynasty.
He also composed the themes of the 1950s western shotgun slade, the sitcom It’s time and the night soap flamingo road
Survivors include his wife Anita; four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
