This is the first time the successful author is writing the script for the thriller about the takeover of an island by a commando.

Unlike the adaptations of Maman a tort (for France 2 in 2018), Un avion sans elle (for M6 in 2019), and Le temps est assassin (for TF1 in 2019), what prompted you to write directly for the small screen? ?

Michael Busi: I kept this story in a drawer for over thirty years. Bringing him to the big screen was one of my priority projects. For me, this story cannot be the subject of a novel, but rather adheres to the necessities of a series. When France Télévisions announced the desire for an original creation, I took a chance and started developing it with my friend and screenwriter Christian Clères.

You describe the capture of a Breton island by a commando of environmental activists. Thirty years ago, did you imagine the emergence of eco-terrorism?

NO. In the first draft, there was no question of eco-terrorism. I built this story on the theme of a village cut off from the world resisting an invader. And then climate issues found themselves at the center of concerns. Worrying about the future of the planet can push the most desperate to extreme actions. It is not intended for environmentalists. As I belong to the generation marked by the Amoco Cadiz disaster, I am more affected by environmental problems (On March 16, 1978, this American tanker crashed in the English Channel, 227,000 tons of crude oil spilled off the coast of Brittany, causing an oil spill, editor’s note).

There is not a single hero in this story, but several heroes from different generations. Why ? Indeed, returning to the island is Alex (Pierre Perrier) with a turbulent past, redemption-seeking grandmother Mado (Anouk Grinberg), resilient young farmer Candice (Margot Bancilhon) and Chris (Deborah François). , mother, rebellious teen Kelly (Jane Cara) and brave teen Dorian (Diégo Murgia). I wanted to write a cross-generational family drama with characters that each viewer could reflect on.

This series also questions the dangers of new technologies. would you worry?

Even if the activists take advantage of a mole on the island, thanks to computer tools, they know every detail of the life of the islanders. It’s frightening to think that a malicious person could save your data, SMS, emails and your entire private life.

Do you have other adaptation projects of your novels?

Yes. my novel nothing can erase you Set in action in Auvergne, it is being adapted for TF1 and should be filmed this year. And I still have other projects, especially with streaming platforms…

Suspend your career as a novelist to become a showrunner?

I plan to do both head-to-head. Also, my next novel, Three Lives in a Week, will be out on March 2 at Presses de la Cité.
