They join the previous cast Colin Farrellwho will resume his role, Cristin Miliotiwhich plays the female protagonist Sofia Falcone, and Rhenzy Felixwho reportedly plays a teenager who the Penguin befriends and becomes his chauffeur.

The eight-episode Penguin series has been described as a “Scarface-like” that will see the rise of the villain in the criminal underworld of Gotham City. Previously speaking about the film, Farrell said:

“I think it will be eight parts for HBO around Oz’s rise to power, filling that power vacuum that was created when Falcone was killed. Matt [Reeves]Penguin’s original idea was to have the Penguin show start about a week after the Batman movie ended. And then, if it works out, if the trajectory is interesting enough, and if the audience accepts it and we do our job well, let’s have the second movie – Penguin show up in the second movie and pick up where the HBO show ends up.”

During another interview, Farrell shared that he’s read the first script and teased what we can expect from the series’ opening scene, sharing:

“Gotham is still a bit underwater. I read the first script of the first episode and it opens with my feet splashing in the water in Falcone’s office. Even just that, I read it, I was like, ‘Oh man.’”

Lauren LeFranc will serve as writer and showrunner of the series and, speaking about it, said: “I have long been a fan of the world of The Batman, and Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon. I’m thrilled and honored to continue telling stories in the grimy world of Gotham City – and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than to tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot? I am thrilled to work with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners and HBO Max as we work to bring this story to the screen.

Production of the limited series begins this month in New York. It doesn’t have a release date yet.
