In a touching message shared by The Specials on their social networks, the members of the British group announced the death of their amongst them, Terry Hall. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry, our beautiful friend, brother and one of the most brilliant singers, songwriters and songwriters this country has ever produced.”The group wrote.
“Terry was a wonderful husband and father, and one of the kindest, funniest and most sincere souls. His music and performances epitomized the essence of life… joy, pain, humor, the fight for justice, but above all he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. and he will leave behind the gift of his extraordinary music and deep humanity. Terry usually leaves the stage at the end of The Specials shows saying three words… ‘Love Love Love You. We ask everyone to respect the privacy of the family at this very sad time.’they also wrote to this message.
Terry Hall, just 63 years old, was the singer and leader of this veteran ska band in our English neighbourhood. This formation, which was very involved in the Rock Against Racism movement that left its mark on the country in the 1970s, left its mark on the music world with titles such as. ghost town, too much too young or Gangsters.
After two albums and some success, The Specials broke up in the 1980s after the ska wave ended. Three of the members, including Terry Hall, came together to form Fun Boy There. The late British musician and singer later announced his talent as a soloist with the band The Colourfield, which he formed in the 1980s, and then with two albums released in the 1990s.
The members of The Specials reunited for a series of concerts in 2008, after nearly 30 years of exploring other paths. Two albums followed, the first with the original title in 2018, and the second cover with “protest songs” in 2021. Terry Hall, alongside his career in these bands, is Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz or even Sinéad O’Connor.
Terry was a wonderful husband and father, and one of the kindest, funniest and most sincere of souls. His music and performances summed up the essence of life… the joy, the pain, the humor, the struggle for justice, but most of all, the love. (2/4)
