Chris Albrecht’s time at Legendary Television is coming to an end.
Deadline confirmed that Albrecht is likely to step down from his position as president. He was placed on leave in October after new details about his time at HBO emerged from the book It’s Not TV: The Spectacular Rise, Revolution, and Future of HBO by Felix Gillette and John Koblin.
The book follows how Albrecht allegedly strangled former HBO executive Sasha Emerson in the summer of 1991 – months after they ended their consensual relationship while they were both married. At the time, Albrecht was responsible for original programming and worked with Emerson on HBO Independent Productions. No police report was made.
When the contents of the book were published in October, a spokesman for Albrecht denied that the incident had taken place. Albrecht published his own statement which said, among other things: “After more than 30 years, an old, erroneous story is now being processed and recycled for sale. I sincerely apologize to those I offended with disrespect and unacceptable behavior.”
Legendary was apparently surprised by the revelations in the book.
Albrecht joined the company in 2019 after leaving Starz.
Puck’s Matthew Belloni was the first to break the news.
