More than 150 Virgin passengers received a free cruise from the company’s founder Sir Richard Branson.
Those on board flight VA 1316 from Melbourne to Hobart were stunned on Thursday morning when they were told they had all been offered a cruise worth up to $7,000.
Mr Branson called via FaceTime from his private island of Necker in the British Virgin Islands to alert passengers that they would be taking a Virgin Voyages cruise.
Launching in Australia next month, the cruise line offers voyages around Australia and New Zealand.

The Thursday morning flight was chosen because it is the same route Virgin’s Resilient Lady cruises on its Mermaiden Voyage.
“Well, today you happen to be traveling on the same route as our Aussie MerMaiden Voyage,” Mr Branson said over the flight’s public address system.
“To celebrate this milestone, I’m giving every adult on board a free Virgin Voyages cruise.”

Cabin crew, baggage handlers and pilots of Flight VA 1316 also participated in the grand draw, with Mr. Branson who donated a total of more than $1 million.
The Resilient Lady will depart from her home port of Melbourne for Tasmania on December 11.
The cruise line’s voyages are for adults only.
Resilient Lady has a tattoo parlor on board and even has a special feature where guests can order a glass of champagne via their phone, no matter where they are on the boat.
The ship has already traveled through countries such as Greece, Croatia, Dubai, Bali and Singapore.
