They naturally feel comfortable as part of a herd. But Scotland’s loneliest sheep has been stuck at the foot of a cliff in the Highlands for two years.
Jillian Turner spotted the animal in 2021 on a trip from Balintore to Nigg with the East Sutherland Canoe and Kayak Club.
But recently she made the same trip again and noticed that the sheep was still stuck on the small piece of beach. Drones have now been sent to control the beast.
Ms Turner, of Brora, Sutherland, said when she first saw the sheep she assumed it would climb the cliff. When the canoe club returned, they were shocked to find the animal still there.
She said: “She called closer to us and followed the group back down the coast, jumping from rock to rock and calling to us all the way.”

“The poor ewe had been alone for at least two years – because a herd animal is being tortured, and when we passed her twice she seemed desperate to come into contact with us.”
“It’s heartbreaking. We honestly thought she might come back the first year.
“After the weekend storm, I’m worried about whether she survived it. “The huge waves and currents of water rushing through the channels must have been traumatic, if not fatal, for her.”
The ewe’s coat represented his time in isolation. Ms Turner said: “The first time her fur was a normal one-year growth, but on the last trip the fur was big and touching the ground at the back.”
The sheep are not the same breed as the local farmers.
Ms Turner has reached out to anyone who could help her with a life-saving operation, but so far nothing has been done.
