Tom Pelphrey Talks Preparing for Baby No. 2 With Cuoco

Tom Pelphrey won his first Emmy Award on Sept. 14, 2026, taking home Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in "Task," and used the moment backstage to reveal how he and fiancée Kaley Cuoco are preparing for their second child together.

Speaking exclusively to E! News backstage at the 2026 Emmys, Pelphrey said he, Cuoco and their 3-year-old daughter, Matilda, are getting the household ready for a new baby. "We're both so excited," he said. "Our daughter's excited. We'll see how it goes when the baby actually gets there, but switching rooms, swapping things around and laughing at how different it is from one to two."

What's Changing at Home

Pelphrey said some parts of the process will feel unfamiliar the second time around, while others will feel routine. He added that there will also be "things that feel like not a big deal this time," now that he and Cuoco have already been through it once with Matilda.

Cuoco, known for "The Big Bang Theory," announced in June that she and Pelphrey are expecting a girl. Pelphrey revealed backstage that the couple has already chosen a name for their second daughter, though he said the Emmys ceremony probably would not end up being her namesake. "That was not the plan," he joked. "We have one. We always leave open the possibility that she'll sort of declare herself. So we'll see."

Asked about his hopes for the months ahead, Pelphrey kept it simple. "Mom and baby are healthy, so God willing, that keeps up. We're thrilled," he said.

An Emotional Acceptance Speech

Pelphrey's Emmy win capped a big night for the couple, who got engaged in 2024 after two years of dating. Accepting his award on the Peacock Theatre stage in Los Angeles, he dedicated it to Cuoco.

"To my favorite actor in this room, my love, my best friend, my partner, the very pregnant Kaley Cuoco," he said. "I love you more than anything, and our family is the crown jewel of my life."

Cuoco was visibly emotional in the audience, wiping away tears as Pelphrey spoke. He also addressed Matilda and the unborn baby directly from the stage. "Daddy loves you," he continued. "Baby girl in that belly, Daddy loves you."

Who Is Tom Pelphrey?

Pelphrey is known for playing Ben Davis in the Netflix series "Ozark," a role that earned him an Emmy nomination, and for starring in "Task." Cuoco rose to fame as Penny on "The Big Bang Theory" and later starred in and produced HBO Max's "The Flight Attendant."

The 2026 Emmys were hosted by Mariska Hargitay, who attended with her husband, Peter Hermann, and their three children, Andrew, Amaya and August. Several other stars brought their partners to the red carpet as well.

Jon Hamm attended with his wife, Anna Osceola, who debuted her own baby bump during the outing. Harrison Ford appeared alongside his wife, Calista Flockhart, while "The Pitt" actress Katherine LaNasa was supported by her husband of 12 years, Grant Snow.
