Rumer Willis, the eldest daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, has undergone a genetic test to gauge her risk of developing Alzheimer's disease as her father continues his battle with dementia.

The 38-year-old actress partnered with health testing company Function to take an ApoE genetic test, a screening used to assess a person's predisposition to Alzheimer's.

'It's terrifying to get answers sometimes,' Willis told People magazine. 'Obviously there are genetic things in my family. Not just dementia, I've had some family members who have had breast cancer and family members who have had different things.'

She added that having information gives her power, even if the comparison sounds like something out of a superhero film. 'When we're able to see, OK, maybe I'm more predisposed to this, you can just start actively working to reduce inflammation in your body, work on heart health, whatever it is,' she said.

In a video posted to Function's Instagram account on Monday, Willis reflected on how her father's diagnosis has changed him. 'I really miss my dad. I miss a different version of who he was,' she said.

'There are some days that are just so hard. I try to prioritize being present with where he's at now. The truth is, to be strong is learning to deal with both things at the same time,' she said.

Test results came back 'pretty average'

Willis said her ApoE results showed some risk but nothing alarming. 'It just means there is some risk, but it's not crazy,' she said, adding that Function, which offers more than 100 advanced lab tests, had given her useful information to act on.

'I think health is one of those things that we take for granted until we don't have it,' she told People. 'And I think that if you are taking small steps right now to be proactive about it, you might not have to have such a steep fall off the cliff as you get older.'

Bruce Willis's family and dementia diagnosis

Willis shares a three-year-old daughter, Louetta, with ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas. Earlier this month, Demi Moore marked Bruce Willis's birthday with a photo of him with their granddaughter.

Bruce and Demi Moore, who were married before divorcing, also share daughters Scout, 35, and Tallulah, 32, who recently married. The family announced Bruce's dementia diagnosis three years ago.

Bruce's family revealed in 2022 that the Die Hard actor had been diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that causes a person to lose communication skills. By February 2023, his loved ones confirmed the condition had progressed into frontotemporal dementia, a degenerative brain disease that affects speech, behavior and cognitive function.

Bruce's wife, Emma Heming Willis, 50, wrote about the experience of transitioning from spouse to caretaker in her book, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, published in September 2025. Bruce and Heming Willis share daughters Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12.
