Russian tourist compares Georgian resort of Batumi to Miami

A Russian tourist has shared glowing impressions of his vacation in Georgia, describing the coastal promenade in the Black Sea resort of Batumi as being like Miami.

The traveler flew to the former Soviet republic in April alongside his wife and son. During their trip, the family visited three major destinations across the country, starting in the national capital of Tbilisi, traveling north into the high mountains at Stepantsminda, and ending their journey on the coast in Batumi.

Upon arriving in Batumi, the tourist said he felt as though he had stepped into an entirely different country. He observed that dramatic alpine scenery gave way to tropical palm trees, while the cool mountain air was replaced by a warm coastal breeze.

The traveler praised the city's pebble beaches, noting that the sea water was surprisingly clear during early morning hours before the resort fully woke up. Describing the waterfront, he said the seaside boulevard, parallel road, and adjacent buildings closely mirrored Miami, adding that it was no secret local developers had adopted the design concept directly from the American city.

He added that Batumi undergoes a complete transformation in the evening, describing the resort as an environment specially created for long, aimless walks.

Coastal atmosphere and family hospitality

Reflecting on the overall journey, the tourist described Georgia as a strange country in the best possible sense. He explained that while travelers initially visit the country to capture scenic photographs, sample local food, or explore mountain landscapes, they return home with the feeling of having stayed with a very large family, calling that hospitality the most memorable aspect of their trip.

The traveler's feedback was initially posted on the Russian content platform Dzen before being highlighted by the online travel publication Tonkosti Turizma.

Contrasting tourist experiences on the Black Sea

Batumi is the second-largest city in Georgia and serves as the capital of the autonomous Adjara region. Located on the southeastern coast of the Black Sea, the resort city is famous for its subtropical climate, modern skyscraper architecture, and sprawling seaside park boulevard. Stepantsminda, located near the Russian border in northern Georgia, offers high-altitude mountain scenery near Mount Kazbek, while Tbilisi serves as the political and cultural center of the South Caucasus nation.

The positive report stands in contrast to a previous account from another Russian vacationer who described her visit to Batumi as deeply disappointing. That tourist reported that large stones along the shoreline made walking painful without specialized water shoes, while describing the sea as murky with heavy waves.
