Rock legend Bret Michaels, 63, has canceled all remaining 2026 tour dates and will take the next several months off to focus on his health following emergency kidney stone surgery.
The decision was announced by Michaels Entertainment Group on Saturday following a comeback performance by the Back in the Day singer at The Bowl in Sugar Hill, Georgia, on Friday, where medical personnel determined he required immediate rest.
In a statement published on Instagram and Facebook, the team revealed that doctors and paramedics evaluated the musician immediately after his Georgia performance. Management confirmed that Michaels "still needs additional rest and recovery" from his recent operations and will take the coming months off to heal and get back to 100 percent.
"We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being," his doctors said in a statement. Medical staff noted that although Michaels wanted to attempt the show, severe summer heat and humidity pose significant risks to his blood sugar levels during his recovery period.
Michaels Entertainment Group offered its "deepest apologies" to fans for the cancellations. The company added that management looks forward to Michaels returning "healthy, strong and ready to rock."
Michaels also commented directly on the social media post to express appreciation for his audience. "There are not enough words to tell you how much your incredible messages mean to me," he wrote.
The musician admitted that his passion to perform led him back to the stage prematurely. Driven by a "nonstop spirit to go out & do what I love - which is to play music and to see all of you," Michaels noted he "may have just chosen to go sooner than I should have," closing his message "with much love and respect to everybody!"
Emergency Surgery and Prior Tour Dates
The tour cancellation follows emergency surgery in July for a debilitating kidney stone. On July 22, Michaels shared on Facebook that he had endured seven days of excruciating pain before undergoing the necessary procedure.
Despite intense discomfort, Michaels completed three concerts prior to his hospital admission. He played a July 4 performance in Charleston, West Virginia, a July 11 concert in Grantville, Pennsylvania, and a private show at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, on July 18.
The singer was admitted to the hospital on July 19 after the stone failed to pass and the pain became overwhelming. Following the operation, Michaels posted a photo from his hospital bed showing himself smiling, wearing his signature cap, and giving an "all good" hand sign.
"The operation has been done and is complete & I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when I've got a complete clean bill of health," Michaels told followers.
He expressed "complete gratitude" for the hospital staff caring for him and noted that he was admitted directly from his concert venue. "Also just know, they eventually forced me out of my clothes & into a hospital gown lol as I had gone straight from the show to the hospital," he wrote, emphasizing on a #WisdomWednesday post the vital role family, friends, fans, doctors, and nurses play in health.
Solo Tour and Poison Reunion Plans
Before canceling his remaining schedule, Michaels was fully booked on his Live and Amplified solo tour. In May, he had canceled a performance at the President Donald Trump-supported Freedom 250 concert, citing security concerns and growing political divisiveness.
The singer has also made headlines off stage, recently supporting his 26-year-old daughter, Raine Michaels, who sells pictures of her feet online.
Despite his health challenges, Michaels remains focused on reuniting with his hair-metal group Poison for a tour in 2027. The band last toured together in 2022 alongside Def Leppard and had previously planned to launch major headlining concerts in 2026.
Those 2026 plans fell through after drummer Rikki Rockett claimed the band gave up because Michaels wanted the "lion's share" of the revenue. Michaels remains adamant that a reunion alongside bandmates C.C. DeVille, Rikki Rockett, and Bobby Dall is still scheduled for 2027.
During an appearance on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk in April, Michaels shared his optimism about the band's future. "We're hoping for '27, 'cause I know it's a big question," Michaels said. "I think, I really strongly think '27, without going into details yet, is going to be a good reunion year for Poison. I think it's gonna be awesome."
