"100 Dias" ("100 Days"), one of Brazil's contenders for the 2027 Academy Awards, opens in cinemas on October 29. The film dramatizes the story of Amyr Klink, the first person to row solo across the South Atlantic Ocean, with actor Filipe Bragança playing the navigator.
The story follows Klink as he spends years preparing for the expedition, driven by a goal many considered impossible. When he finally sets off from Luderitz, Namibia, he realizes the biggest challenge is not only the ocean. Over the course of the hundred-day voyage, he must also confront fear, his own choices, and the family relationships that shaped who he became.
The first images from "100 Dias" were released exclusively by CNN Brasil in May and shown at the Rio2C festival. The film is directed by Carlos Saldanha, a Brazilian filmmaker previously nominated for an Oscar and known for "Rio," the "Ice Age" franchise and "Ferdinand."
Amyr Klink played by Filipe Bragança
Filipe Bragança takes on the lead role of Amyr Klink. He previously starred as singer Sidney Magal in "Meu Sangue Ferve por Voce" and played Joao Raul in the telenovela "Coracao Acelerado." His other credits include "Perrengue Fashion" and "Elas por Elas."
Asa Klink, the navigator's mother
Asa Klink, mother of Amyr and his brother Tymur, follows her son's plans closely and supports the adventure he decides to undertake, even as she worries about the family and the risks of a journey that pushes known limits. That position puts her in a delicate conflict when her son's ambitions clash with her husband's concerns.
She is played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, a French actress known internationally for playing Sylvie Grateau in "Emily in Paris." Leroy-Beaulieu speaks Portuguese, a language she learned while living in Brazil in the 1990s, and that familiarity shaped her preparation for the role. Amyr Klink has said in interviews that the actress resembles his mother, including her accent.
Jamil Klink, the father who opposed the voyage
Jamil Klink, father of Amyr and Tymur, represents one of the main forces opposing the navigator's choices. More cautious and worried about his family's future, he confronts Amyr over the risks of his decision and questions the limits of a project he considers dangerous. Their relationship shows that before facing the ocean, Amyr first had to face conflict and expectation within his own family.
Felipe Camargo plays Jamil Klink. With an extensive career in film, television and theater in Brazil, Camargo starred in the 1986 telenovela "Anos Dourados" and has also appeared in "Alem do Tempo," "De Volta aos 15" and "Santo Maldito."
Tymur Klink, brother and right-hand man
Tymur Klink, Amyr's brother and his main partner in preparing for the crossing, occupies a key place in the navigator's story. Rather than simply watching the project unfold, he takes part in building it closely and becomes his brother's right-hand man through the expedition's challenges. His presence underscores that although the crossing itself was made by Amyr alone, realizing that dream depended on a network of people who believed in the project and helped make it possible.
Tymur Klink is played by Joao Vitor Silva, who appeared in Kleber Mendonca Filho's "O Agente Secreto." His other notable work includes "Impuros" and the telenovela "Quem Ama Cuida."
Brazil's Oscar selection process
"100 Dias" is currently among the titles pre-selected to represent Brazil at the 2027 Academy Awards. In total, 15 feature films were submitted and are eligible to compete for the spot, with the choice due to be announced on September 16.
The selected film will compete for a place in the Best International Feature category at the 99th Academy Awards. Nominees will be announced on January 21, 2027, and the ceremony is scheduled for March 14.
