Police on the Thai island of Phuket have arrested luxury villa rental agent Thanaporn for defrauding Russian tourists out of millions of baht. The suspect, who is also known as Yu, was taken into custody early in the morning on August 26 at her residence in Thalang district, according to local newspaper The Phuket News.
The criminal investigation began after two Russian tourists lodged an official complaint with local authorities. The victims reported that they had transferred payment to Thanaporn in advance to secure accommodation at a luxury villa in the Cherng-Talay area before traveling to the island. However, upon their arrival in Thailand, the visitors discovered that no booking had ever been made on their behalf.
Outstanding warrants and admission of guilt
Following her arrest at her residence, law enforcement officers disclosed that Thanaporn was already wanted under three separate arrest warrants for similar fraud offences. During preliminary interrogation by police officers, the suspect confessed to being involved in further criminal episodes.
Investigators estimate the total financial damage caused across the fraudulent transactions at five million Thai baht, which is equivalent to approximately 13 million Russian rubles.

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and one of Southeast Asia's foremost holiday destinations, welcoming millions of international visitors annually. Cherng-Talay, located within Thalang district on the island's central west coast, is an affluent subdistrict famous for its private villa estates, luxury resorts, and popular beachfront destinations like Bang Tao Beach.
Due to the high volume of international holidaymakers visiting the province, local news outlet The Phuket News frequently reports on law enforcement actions targeting fraudulent booking operations and illegal business practices affecting overseas travelers.
The report also highlighted another criminal investigation in the region, where a Russian national was placed on a wanted list after leading an organized crime gang in Vietnam. Authorities reported that the individual commanded a gang that carried out physical assaults against hotel guests to steal their money.
